Dany, would you love to make the inteview in German or in English?
In German please
You do lots of interviews in German, how come?
I just would love to improve my German – it´s learning by doing. And back home in Canada we did a lot of talking in German, especially when we had guests from Germany.
What did your parents say when you told them you signed in Germany as well? Have you met your brother Mark since you´ve been here?
My Mum was very proud of course. But besides of that it´s much easier for them – they only have to take one flight to visit Mark and me. And yes, I´ve met Mark at the Oktoberfest – maybe again in the next couple of weeks – it depends on our game schedules.
Do you like Nuremberg so far?
I love it, it´s fun. Lots of lovely spots to walk around. In the first two weeks beeing here we stayed in a hotel near the historical old town, so we walked around a lot, visited the castle and a lot of pretty good restaurants.
„Glühwein“ and „Lebkuchen“ - both are very typical for Nuremberg - have you tried them?
Yes, we´ve tried Lebkuchen last week and i like it ! Also i know Glühwein – i tried it a couple of years ago when Mark played in Bietigheim. We went to the christmas market in Stuttgart and had some Glühwein.
Have you ever wanted to become a pro hockey player? Did you have an idol?
Yes for sure! My Dad played hockey as well and i´ve been playing hockey since 3 years old. And i loved seeing Brett Hull playing.
You wrote an autobiography called „ Dominate Dany Heatley“. Foreword by Wayne Gretzky, how came?
It’s for kids – just kidding. It was fun- i was asked by the wife of the president of the Canadian hockey association and i just said „ yes“. I got to know Wayne Gretzky during the Olympic Games – he is great guy.
The Ice Tigers played in Mannheim a couple days ago – you played there 5 years ago. Did you remember?
Yes, it was because of an exhibition game of the NHL with San Jose. It was fun.
Any „ funniest moments“during your NHL career, any „ special moments“so far?
Well, what happens in the locker room stays in the locker room. But a very special moment were the Olympic Games in Canada, because wives and all family members joined us.
How about motivation?
I love hockey, i just love this game – nothing better in the world than hitting the ice. I´ve started playing when i was 3 years old, it´s my life. And trying my best to play hockey as long as i can.
Last question: Imagine you were asked by a 3 year old what to do to become such a great hockey player than you are. What would you tell him?
First of all it´s all about fun. He has to „breathe“hockey and to work hard and then maybe he will get lucky to play in the DEL.
Thank you so much for this Interview Dany! Wishing you and yours all the Best!
